The Tunnel of Life

The tunnel where people come and go, some stay, some don’t, and some never make it past through. let’s talk about the famous underpass connecting Manila city hall to Calle Victoria, one of the roads leading to Intramuros. this underpass has been there since ages, students especially that come from Taft more often than not has used this underpass to get from Manila city hall to Intramuros as one cannot simply cross the roads across as there is no pedestrian lane found.

This underpass has served people mainly, students, professors as they make their way to their destination, imagine how many students through the years have come and go, this underpass has served its purpose and if you see it as a person who wants to go from one place to another, this underpass is bulletproof. but let us talk about its downfalls and flaws like every other thing in this world, this underpass is flooded mainly not by water, but people looking to set their business and/or livelihood in this tunnel making it crowded and almost too narrow to pass through, Architecturally speaking, this underpass’s ergonomics is already great for walkway tunnels if the merchandise stands, food-stalls and other stalls are removed, I think the width which is the entryway has a length of between 5-6 meters and that should be enough, but unfortunately the merch stores takeaways about 1-2 meters each side making the walkway narrow, for just a a normal person passing through, this is not a problem but for a long term person who passes through this tunnel daily, for example, students, professors, workers, etc. this might be a problem, you see you get tired of sliding yourself in that crowded tunnel it’s like you’re in a mosh pit concert and you’re trying to get yourself near the stage, ain’t it terrible.

Ending this entry, if I look at this architecturally this underpass is already close to perfect, maybe just a small fix in drainage for rainy days also if I may mention but other than that I see no more problems with this underpass except its inhibitors. I say the mayor must take necessary arrangements once in for all, after all, if it’s for the security, safety, and satisfaction of the public then I see no problem with it.
